BG Roxy Concert Footage on G4!

UPDATED 7-27-08:  G4’s timeframe to run the videos expired, so the videos finally came down. Hope you enjoyed them while they lasted!

G4.com is running exclusive concert footage of the recent Music of Battlestar Galactica at the Roxy Theatre!  It features interviews with myself, singers Brendan McCreary and Raya Yarbrough, and our MC for the evening, Kandyse “Dualla” McClure.  You’ll also hear clips from our performances of Fight Night and Roslin and Adama.

If this segment gets enough clicks, they’re ready to run FULL MUSIC VIDEOS of those two songs, so pass that url to your buddies!

And check out the absolutely stunning photographs from both concerts, as well as a full band rehearsal, from the lens of Andrew Craig, who does amazing work.  These are some of the best pictures of our band ever taken:

Full Rehearsal, Friday April 11th

Roxy Theatre, Sunday April 13th

Roxy Theatre, Tuesday April 15th

We are in the process of putting together a video of the complete concert and the documentary we premiered.  Fear not.  You will all get a chance to see this thing.  I don’t know how yet… maybe I can convince Universal to include it on the Season 4 DVD, maybe we’ll release it online, maybe I’ll burn DVDs myself and leave them at bus-stops.  But, it will get out there, I promise!

In all seriousness, though… some enthusiastic noise from the fan community will really help get this concert footage on the Season 4 DVD.  So, if you want to see this, help out by drumming up some support online.

And, here are my personal favorite pix from the whole experience:

The talented and lovely Kandyse McClure introduces the band.

Unbelievably, M.B. Gordy broke 10 pairs of taiko sticks between the two concerts.  I’m not talking about drum sticks… taiko sticks are huge.  This guy is a one-man-wrecking-crew.

Brendan McCreary sings All Along the Watchtower

Raya Yarbrough sings A Distant Sadness

roxy08-bartek.jpg

Guitarist Steve Bartek is the man.

roxy08-cartwright.jpg

Violin virtuoso Paul Cartwright rocked so hard that the first 3 or 4 rows should have been classified as a splash zone.

roxy08-bleth.jpg

When I introduced ethnic woodwind maestro Chris Bleth to the crowd, he got a fitting rocker’s ovation, a sound that most duduk players are unaccustomed to.

Mike Valerio rocks the bass.

roxy08-anna.jpg

Violinist Anna Stafford looks downright angelic in this picture.

roxy08-tom.jpg

Tom “Dirty Brahms” Lea.  This guy brought the shred so hard that he broke two viola strings (the C and G strings, the toughest ones to break).

roxy08-jacob.jpg

Jacob Szekely makes his heavy-metal face during Black Market.

roxy08-bruce.jpg

Percussionist Bruce Carver plays taiko.

roxy08-charlie.jpg

Charlie Unkeless runs the lights.  I told him I wanted the palette of the concert to match the tone of the television series, so he removed all the pink gels from the lights, replacing them with dark, Battlestar-y colors.

roxy08-bear.jpg

Speaking of heavy-metal faces, I love this shot of me.  Too bad I’m only playing a keyboard and not a flying-V double-neck guitar… On second thought, maybe that’s ok.

James and I pause for a picture on the set of our interview for the documentary (the location was graciously donated by Pam Douglas, whose artwork you see on the walls).  James’ sexy Battlestar bathrobe was actually featured in the scene and got quite a laugh from the audience.

And, of course, I love this picture!  Here I am, backstage on the second night, flanked by two talented and gorgeous women: Kandyse McClure and Raya Yarbrough.  I know, I know… it’s a hard life.

So Say We All!

PS: I’d like to give a shout out to Blair Butler and everybody at G4, especially to Joe Lynch, who directed the segment and cut it together brilliantly.
