A few months ago, I posted an entry asking fans which pieces they would like included in the upcoming Battlestar Galactica: Season 4 soundtrack CD. Since then, my blog has been brimming with ideas and suggestions from all of you, which will be very useful in the coming weeks as I finally begin assembling the album. Even though I haven’t picked out all the tracks yet, I think that this fourth album will easily rank amongst the first three, and possibly outshine them all.
The one question I get more often than any other is “When will the CD come out?” I recently spoke with the lads over at La La Land Records and got a tentative release schedule for my various projects this year. Let me take this opportunity to update you all with all the information I know right now. Please keep in mind, that all of this is subject to change. I’ll announce official release dates and track lists as they get solidified. But, there are currently THREE “Galactica”-related Bear McCreary albums set for release in 2009:
First up, Caprica:
With the final episodes of Galactica beginning to air in less than a week, I’m starting to think about the fourth season soundtrack CD. With each album, I lavish weeks (and sometimes months) re-recording, re-mixing, editing and mastering to provide the ultimate BG listening experience.
By far the toughest part of each album is deciding what songs make the cut. My first pass at each CD has always yielded at least two hours of album-worthy music. But, I can usually trim it down to the best 80 minutes worth and not feel like I’ve lost anything too important.
I’ll be celebrating the release of the Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles soundtrack in style this weekend with a signing at Dark Delicacies in Burbank! Also available from La La Land Records will be the recently released Eureka and Rest Stop: Don’t Look Back soundtracks. If you’ve never been there, Dark Delicacies is a blast… a horror-themed store, perfect for any film buff on your Xmas list.

Off topic… Did you see that Battlestar Galactica‘s most recent episode, “Revelations,” was named the Number 6 best episode of television this year by Time Magazine? Number “6”? Coincidence? The clip they’re showing on their site features my work for choir and orchestra, “Diaspora Oratorio” (Beware of MAJOR spoilers if you haven’t seen the show).
The wait is finally over! The long-awaited, long-delayed Battlestar Galactica: Season 3 soundtrack CD has been released from La La Land Records. Narrowing down this incredibly complex and layered season of 20 episodes down to 80 minutes of music was quite a chore, but I’m thrilled with the end result. Nearly every major theme from all three seasons is represented somewhere on the album, as well as many new ones.
Hey guys and gals,
I’ll be doing a signing next week for the release of my two new albums out this month from La La Land Records: Wrong Turn 2 and the highly-anticipated Battlestar Galactica: Season 3. This event is also kick-starting the release of the Wrong Turn 2 DVD, so director Joe Lynch and several cast-members will also be there.
Some quick updates for the Galactica fans out there.
I know everybody wants to know when the next live Galactica concert is and I’ve finally got a vague, but close-to-being-finalized answer….
The Battlestar Galactica Live Concert in Los Angeles has been postponed to January 2008. [Update: It has since been postponed to April 2008]
The reasons for the delay are too numerous to mention, but I’m planning on scheduling the performance very close to the premiere of Season 4. I hope to have all the details locked down in the next month or two, so stay vigilant and keep checking back every once in a while. This concert will be worth the wait. We’ll be performing highlights from Seasons 1, 2 and 3 and probably give a sneak preview of the score to Season 4. I’m also expanding the ensemble this year to include some of the string pieces, so we’ll be performing “A Promise to Return” among others.
Wow! I knew it would take me a while to get back to this blog, but I never thought it would be 5 months! After finishing the intense Bob-Dylan-inspired Galactica season finale, I think I needed a little time off. So here’s what’s new…
I will begin scoring the two-hour straight-to-DVD movie, Battlestar Galactica: Razor, next week. I’m looking forward to diving back into the Galactica universe for one last season. And no, I didn’t score the trailers Sci Fi Channel has been running. I’m never involved with any of the promos, even though sometimes they’ll use my score in the ads.
There are some really exciting releases coming up in the next few months. I spent my entire spring and summer working on the new Battlestar Galactica Season Three Soundtrack Album for you guys and it’s finally finished!
