The Walking Dead: TS-19

by Bear McCreary / Sunday, 05 December 2010 / Published in Blog, The Walking Dead

Tonight’s episode of “The Walking Dead,” TS-19, brings the first season to an exciting conclusion.  To celebrate the completion of our first season, I’m doing something I’ve never done before!  We’ve been collecting little snippets from our video blogs that have been hitting the proverbial cutting room floor, and tonight I’ll share them with all of you.  Here are “Outtakes from the Blogging Dead:”

This series has been a tremendous amount of fun to work on.  And while I was always confident that it would find an enthusiastic audience, I genuinely never expected it would be such a smash hit, or make the cover of Entertainment Weekly.  That was quite a surprise!

Many of you are already asking me about the possibility of a soundtrack album.  I’m confident there will be a soundtrack at some point in the future.  But, don’t get too excited just yet. 🙂  I want to wait until I’ve finished Season 2 before assembling an album.  These first 6 episodes generally didn’t require a lot of music (TS-19, for example, had less than 5 minutes of original score).  Yes, there are many great pieces, but releasing an album now doesn’t make a lot of sense to me.  So, any album release will likely wait until late next year.

Lastly, I’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone on my music team: Steve Kaplan, Jonathan Ortega, Michael Beach, Ed Trybek, Henri Wilkinson, David Matics, Kevin Porter, Jonathan Beard, Andy Harris, Laurence Schwarz, Tom Brisette, Andrew Craig, Derek Zhao, John Tempereau and Roxanne Lippel.  And our primary musicians who brought so much vitality and energy to the score: Steve Bartek, Ira Ingber, Brendan McCreary, Julie Gigante, Katia Popov, Brian Dembow, Steve Erdody, Jacob Szekely and Mike Valerio. And big thanks to Gale Anne Hurd and Frank Darabont for inviting me on this crazy journey!  I can’t wait to see where we travel in Season 2.

Speaking of the future, keep a close eye on the blog in the coming weeks.  I’m posting several holiday-related entries that will hopefully inspire some holiday cheer.  🙂
